Hmmm...that's a tough one. Walter Farley and Ms. Henry did have the market on horse books! And of course Anna Sewell's Black Beauty...

There were some I really liked that I used to have, but they were "borrowed" and never returned... I don't remember the author but the titles were something along the lines of "Gypsy from Nowhere" and "Gypsy and Nimblefoot".
