Hi Cody, nice to meet you. Thank you for answering my entry. :)
I do not know much about his history. I do believe the gelding is a young one. I also believe he was only messed with to be gelded, and then just broke to ride enough to say he was rideable. If this is the case then he associates being grabbed by the head as a bad thing. So I am working on that slowly. When he is in his stall, I enter to feed ect, I will wiggle my fingers at him and tell him scratches and walk up and I am able to scrach his side and neck great. But when I go to reach for his halter he gets all jittery. I have had to a couple of times grab his mane and do the do si do with him in the stall becaue I didnt want to take a chance on his kicking me. But afterwards I always held him still, petted and spoke softly to him. Then I let him go and went back to what ever it was I was doing but I kept an eye on him. I am currently working on making a small pen. Weather has hampered that one a bit. But hopefully will have a small pen to work with him in, in a couple of weeks. For now though I am working with him somewhat in his stall. I am not doing a whole lot. I am getting him to eat out of my hand, and everytime I go into his stall, I move slow and do the scratches thing. As long as I dont go for his head it is ok. But once I have his head, he becomes ok with things and calms down. I can lead him out of the stall with ease. I have thought about tying him up to a post and walking off then walking back slowly and then scratching him on the head. Then walking off for a bit, over and over. As I want to do this where I cant be hurt and he wont be hurt either. But I will give your suggestion a try. :)
