Is loaning a horse a good idea??

I'm 15 and have been wanting a horse ever since i started riding,my mum has finally agreed but she says she doesn't want to BUY a horse.
Is loaning a good idea? has anyone ever loaned/is loaning a horse? What are the good and bad points of loaning?
