Sara, First, I will address the leading problem. The toughest battle will be the first one. You have to try to overcome your fears before you start because you are right, the horse will sense it. All horses, small or large will test you and will do any- thing they think (and prove) they can. I don't know how big you are and how big your horse is but, the advantage to having miniatures is that (in most cases) they are not large enough to do real damage if you stay in control. Due to the fact that it sounds as if you have already been working at this for a while, the next step I would take would be to tie the little one to a post, tree or anything you feel is stout enough to withstand a little temper trantrum. Usually, it doesn't take long for them to realize that, when the halter is on and they feel pressure against it, they can't win. If this doesn't work, what I like to do is wait until we have a really hot day and then try working with them. Most of the time they will give up after about 10-15 minutes in the heat. The only problem with this method is you are having to work in the heat also. About the halter, it sounds as if you are using a halter which was made for a big horse and/or pony. It is probably too large for your horse. Most of the feed stores here in Texas are now carrying the mini halters. See if you can find one that will fit better. If not, contact me and I will be happy to put you in contact with some people who have them for mail order. I hope some of this has been helpful. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Cindy Cherry Cherryville Farms cherry@flash.net 281-337-2770: HI! : I have a miniatiure horse and she is real sweet but when I try to lead her she kicks and rears and turns and jumps etc. because she dosent want to have to be led and it hasn't been done in a while. I cant seem to train her and I am scared to for fear she will kick me down and kill me, please give me some information on how to tame and train a horse like this. I think she sences some thing when I am leading her though because I feel nervous. Also, I have a problem about her halter, the medal ring up near her eye goes into her eye when I tug on her and she hates it, what do you suppose could be causing that? I tried it on both sides of her head. Thanks! : Sara : P.S. : I am looking for a mare, or gelding to be her friend for 500 dollars or under I live in North Carolina. I dont want Stallions, Please let me know if you have one for sale. Thanks!
