So how/when did you learn how to ride? Personally, my mom had a mare when I was a baby, then from there I went to my cousins shetlands, and then my earliest memories were of riding an ornery shetland named George who resided at the barn my Dad leased out. But where I truly learned to ride was on a fat, pregnant, and hard-mouthed little quarter horse mare named Blaze who belonged to my cousin. That mare was as stubborn as the day is long, and pig headed as they come! My cousin and I also tended to skip the saddling part, prefering to just ride bareback. I came off that mare twice (she had a dern rough trot!) but after that, I was glued to her back. I never had a formal lesson in my life until I started on the intercollegiate team in college, but I knew how to stay on a horse!
Hey, we were all kids once! And if we know how to ride horses now, its highly possible that sometime along the way we learned from someone, somewhere. Of course, not everyone is physically a kid when they finally learn to ride, but being a kid at heart is just as good!
