first just a comment on the last post about using leg pressure when ur riding western. Actually, leg pressure is very important in both english and western! Many people tend to think english is just "pull the right rein to turn right pull back to stop" but its different then that!!Leg pressure in EITHER english and western creates a happier and more balenced horse! lol you might have meant to say that, i just wanted to make sure people didnt get confused!!
As so which way I would start i kid, personally i would rather start them in an english saddle. The reason is because it doesnt let the kids rely on a horn or anything to hold onto. English saddles also force you to sit up straighter and take on your proper position easily. If the child chooses to switch to western, its ok, at least they started with a good position.
Im not trying to say western riders dont have a good position, its just that small children tend to slouch, and an english saddle wont allow them to do that!
