:One of the hosts suggested I post over here for ideas on small, kid-friendly horses that my wife and I might be able to ride too. We were thinking of ponies, but kids grow, and my wife is getting that look in her eyes again.

:Any thoughts?

Well, I have never personally met a Fjord, but I have read and heard really good things about the breed. They aren't real common out here in the East, and I didn't see any in the lower midwest either, but then I travel in spotted circles so its not likely I would have.

I know that POA's are good kids ponies, and the POA club is VERY active and child-oriented. Welsh and welsh crosses are very common kids horses too.

The best I can advise though is to take it on an individual basis. Unless papers mean something to you, don't look for them. Instead, look for a calm, people-oriented horse/pony that just grabs your heart and says "I'm the one". Thats usually the right one then :)
