:What a great question!! I am definitely not an expert so I would tell you what I am reading from the book Horses for Dummies; Horses mainly get baths because we (the owners) want them to look good; for show and just so they look nice. It is true that dirt and sweat under tack can cause major problems therefore a horse that was sweating alot can just be rinsed off using no soap. Regular good grooming should take care of most of the dirt and loose hair. Bathing too much can wash out the normal natural oils on the horse skins causeing dryness and other skin problems. Take into consideration the weather, if it is cold outside you would not want to wash your horse but just spend the extra time grooming to get rid of the dirt. :Basically, it is up to you. Horse do not get baths in the wild but then again they are under different conditions when living with us :). Some people wash once a week, some once a month, some only for show. So what kind of horse do you own? Do you show your horse? :I hope that helps. :PHMustang
