:I am a 21 year old who has been riding horses most of my life. However..most of my riding has been limited to trail riding. I have shown once in Hunter and actually placed 4th. I have always had an intrest in showing but unfortunatly around here ..most of the trainers know only western. I purchased an Andalusian colt about 6 months ago and would really like to show him in Dressage. His father is the 3rd time national champion at 4th level dressage and I would really like to see my boy follow in his fathers footsteps. I was wondering if any one out there had any suggestions for me and how I can make it happen. Does anyone know of a good Dressage trainer in Eastern North Carolina? Can anyone recommend any videos that might start me off in the right direction? At this point I am desperate for anything.. At a year old I am ashamed to say I believe my horse knows more about Dressage than I do. He already bows..I have seen him do the Spanish walk..while playing in the pasture..he has also done a Piaffe...all...while he is just "horsing around" I want to know how I can harness that and get him to do it when I want him to. I would appreciate any feedback that anyone can give me. Thank you so much.

You are in luck :) We happen to have a resident dressage person on staff, appropriately named PH Piaffe! If you mosey on over to the Dressage board, she'd be glad to answer questions, give you some tips, etc. I know she does some training herself and would probably be really helpful. As to a Dressage trainer in your area, not sure how much she could help there, but you never know! You might also try over on the Andalusian board. Its quite at the moment but you never know who might be lurking, waiting for someone to talk to!

Good luck with your colt, he sounds very talented :) If you have some pictures of him, we'd love to see them! We've had a few foals "grow up" on our boards over the years in our old forum. Pastures are better in this one though so I'm looking forward to the babies here!
