:I have a friend who just bought a Arab ..the reason the people were selling her was because she has a single foot gait and that it was undesirable in the show ring? Can you tell me what the single foot gait is and if its uncomfortable or nice?
:thanks!! :-)
I have never used it described this way, but it sounds like what I grew up calling a "rack" with the TWH's I grew up around. Its a natural gait for some horses, and as Mustang said, when they move into this gait, there is only one hoof on the ground at a time, its a very fast movement. As to the comfort, that depends on the horse. The ones I rode who were very well-bred and "born to rack" were extremely smooth. I used to have the pleasure of getting to ride one gelding who won the Championship racking class in Tennessee's big show they have every fall and he was wonderful to ride, you hardly jostled at all. Very, very smooth. But I have also ridden one that wasn't so smooth, he moved in a very rough manner which made me think he had been taught and was not as natural a mover as the others I had ridden. But it is probably much like different horses at a trot, depending on their conformation some are a zilliong times smoother than others!
