I say go for it! What are dreams for after all besides aiming for???

First and foremost, I'd recommend doing lots of reading and reading, and more reading. The more prepared you are the better, and you can never be too prepared. If you get to the point where you think you know it all, keep reading. Then when you get to the point where you realize you don't know anything you're on the right track :)

Another thing, come to tonight's chat with Audrey Pavia, author of Horses For Dummies and maybe even beg her for a signed copy ::::::Grinning::::: Ok, so I'm kidding about the signed copy but her book would definitely be a good starting point! Another book I highly recommend is called Centered Riding. It focuses mainly on huntseat type riding but the book is really a great all around book as far as helping you visualize how to ride correctly regardless of which discipline.

The next thing you need to do is find someone or lots of someones that you trust and who know horses to help you. Going it on your own can work, but more often it can become a disaster. Ideally, riding lessons should be in your immediate future, but that's not always practical and I understand that. At the very least, you want to start out keeping your horse somewhere where there are other folks to learn from and to watch over your shoulder and gently push you in the right direction. Later on, when you've figured out the ropes, you can decide if you are ready to bring your horse home.

Hope that helps get you started :) You should also feel free to try out any of our boards - Living With Horses, Beginning Adult Riders, Boarding Stable, Health and Behavior, The Feed Room...take your pick!

Good luck :) Follow those dreams!
