I am sorry for your loss. The episodes you describe are certainly seizures that likely were brought on by a tumor or blood clot lodging within her brain. It is not uncommon for older horses to slowly develope a growth in their brain called a granuloma. It is benign and doesn't go away. Eventually seizures develope. The contaction of the muscles is without conscious thought or knowledge so doesn't indicate pain or even distress. The eye infection could be involved in as in an earlier seizure/stroke episode leaving nerve impairment to the eye or completely unrelated.
