Hiccups are not a sign of a serious condition. They are usually started by "excitability" of the nerves or muscle of the diaphram. A horse with this type of excitability may also be prone to other muscle spasms, but normally only while at rest. When working the effect is less, so hiccups or muscle twitchs are less or nonexistent.
