Sidebone is ossification of the collateral cartilage within the hoof that extends up both the inside and outside of the foot.
Most cases of sidebone are not painful. If the calcification is very great, then if may be painful. If this new bone breaks, then it could be very painful. Most cases are seen on x rays, but do not cause any lameness.
