You shouldn't worry too much about "abnormalities" or birth defects unless the horses are already very inbred. The genetic variance will be less so the offspring will likely have more expression of the "good" traits the parents have, and more of the "bad" traits of the parents, with little middle ground. So, if they both have a gene for a genetic based illness (allergy, blood disorder, clubfooted, etc) then the foal is very likely to show that strongly. Likewise, unless overcome by other traits, good qualities (controlled by heredity) will also stand out. So, examine their blood lines for any genetic qualities to beware of and plan for them (that is if the genes are in this branch of the family to begin with).
