Hello!
Welcome to our "Ask the Vet" forum. We have two veterinarians who have offered their volunteer time here to answer questions about our equine friends. Dr. Newell and Dr. Yates both have plenty of experience treating horses, as well as a few other critters here and there!
There are some things you need to be aware of when asking questions here.
1. This is NOT a replacement for a local veterinarian. There's no possible way for our vets to see through crystal balls and tell you what is wrong with you horse. Not only is it not a feasible thing, its also illegal for them to even pretend they can. They can give you ideas, general thoughts and recommendations, and can discuss a diagnosis that has been made by your own vet.
2. If its an emergency, or even might be an emergency, get off the Net and Call your VET! Not only do our vets often have no time for days on end to come here and answer questions, but even if they are online when you post - there's NOTHING they can do to help your horse so call your vet who can!
3. Don't ask for dosages. Its illegal for our vets to give dosages out without seeing the animal - and the crystal ball issue has already been discussed.
4. Be patient, or call your own vet. Its as simple as that. As stated before, the vets here do this in their "free time" which any vet will tell you is scarce enough as it is. If your question is time sensitive, call your own vet or be prepared to not get the answer in time.
5. Be nice. A spoonful of sugar will go a lot further than a tub full of chew-stop!
Thanks!
