We just purchased a 12.2 hd welsh cross pony for my daughter and although she is great undersaddle and while grooming(except for rear feet hoof picking issues)she kicks out when approached in the stall while feeding(hay or grain)and in the field while grazing. She is a 10 yr old. She has been used only for a pleasure pony but responds very well to my inexperienced daughter when riding. She goes with only a snaffle bit and is calm for her. I need to know how I can work on these ground manners as I have never had a horse that kicks before and have no clue how to deal with this problem. My daughter loves her pony and wants to keep her(and would like to local show her but I worry about aggression to other horses with this behavior) but I cant keep her if I cant work out this problem. I have a good amount of horse experience and am currently working with a 3 yr old paint so I have a fair understanding of horses in general. We do have a round pen and I wonder if some sort of round pen training would help. Please help me as I want to avoid a very sad 7 yr old daughter. Thanks
