: Hi, I'm new here at Horsehobbyist. I've been riding dressage for three years, and i'd go to those little hunter/jumper shows that had walk/trot, walk/trot/canter equitation classes, etc. just to get some 'show miles'. Well, a dressage show is coming up and i'm finally going to enter the Beginning/training level walk trot class. (i hope that's right, well, it is walk/trot.)
: But, aside from that i was just wondering, how long have you ridden Dressage? And what do you think of it?
: I actually heard someone say that its 'just riding for style', now that, i couldn't believe. Its sooo much more than that. Dressage has so much history behind it, and i really think that if you can ride Dressage you can ride anything, and stay in the saddle while doing so. ^_^
I have to agree that riding Dressage to me does not mean "just riding for style". I do not compete in any horse shows or events but I have watched and read of different competions. When I watch horse and rider in Dressage I am in awe of the oneness of the pair. The horse which can so graceful with each stride just want to please the rider. The rider knowing through the feel of the reins whether the horse is nervous or cranky. The horse responding to each movement of the rider whether it be through the reins or a slight not to be seen movement of the leg. As for the history of dressage, let us start some trivia right here; Rules for the trivia, 1st person with the correct answer can post a new question (you must know the answer of the question) Let the game begin The principles of dressage first appeared in a book in the year 400 B.C., who was the author?
