: Hey, i'm 17 too, i've been riding for nearly three years and i've fallen off 5 times so far. And you should know this, i have a rod in my back because of scoliosis (curvature of the spine) and i had surgery 4 years ago. Were you to look at me, the only evidence would be my scar, other than that i am just like you. And to think that if i've fallen off that many times, that i would not have gotten back on? I did, because i'm doing what i love and i'm not going to let some fall intimidate me. Sure you get bruised, sore, maybe a fracture and you get sent to the hopsital, but you're still alive, right? So, why stop? Besides, you learn from it. I don't know how to jump either, all's i know is dressage, but when i would go out on a trail, my horse would spook/bolt, or even jump because he saw a another horse's pile of poop (weird horse),or maybe it was the 'wild' donkeys but so far i've stayed on those. It's those darn innocent falls i didn't stay on. For xample: i let him itch the leg, my knees weren't on him, he saw something, bolted and guess where i went. yep, right on my butt too. and there's my horse, on the other side of the arena, wondering why i'm on the ground. (that fall was rather funny.)
But, you can't be afraid just because you fell off and he stepped on you 3 or 4 times. You were wearing a helmet, right?
Get back on that horse, keep your knees on the saddle, keep your shoulders back and always be aware of your surroundings. Your horse can hear something a mile away. We can't.
My dressage trainer fell off of her horse while she was cantering. She dislocated her shoulder, and broke a rib. She's still riding, and giving me lessons. Just don't think about. It happens to everybody.
The first couple of times i fell off, yeah, i was a little afraid of getting back on, i'll admit that. But, you need to trust your horse a bit. Horses can sense how you feel. if your nervous or scared, your horse will probably get all jittery. If your excited, well, your horse will probably get excited too. And thats not always good. Talk to your trainer. I wouldn't be where i am if it wasn't for mine.

I fell of during a dressage class at my old stable. the horse i had was a jumper, and because i am not a good jumper i was unable to hold on. so i fell and he steped on me 4 times. i am afraid to ride now. please help me. im 17 and i don't want to give up my life dream.
